A portrait of David Gochman
David Gochman
Principal

David Gochman, founded Inclenberg Investments in early 2012.  Between 1997 and 2011, David served as Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer at Academy Sports & Outdoors, the sporting goods retailer his grandfather founded in San Antonio in 1938.  Under David’s leadership, Academy grew from 49 to 133 stores, ultimately generating annual sales of over $2.2B by the time he sold the company to a private equity firm in 2011.

During David’s time at Academy, he was intimately involved in all aspects of the real estate decision-making process, from site selection to leasing.  While David was CEO, Academy’s footprint expanded from Texas to eleven other states.  By the time David sold the company, Academy’s stores had achieved multiple industry-leading metrics, including sales generated per location and rent per square foot.

At Inclenberg, David has utilized his prior experience as a tenant into the firm’s real estate investment platform.  Specifically, Inclenberg has a programmatic approach to investing, intensely focusing on replicating prior successes.  To achieve repeatable outcomes, Inclenberg values and prioritizes the long-term and trusted relationships it has cultivated with a small group of experienced developers.  David guides Inclenberg toward projects with a strong floor in an effort to minimize downside risk and protect capital.

David received a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, a Master of Arts from Harvard University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law.  When he is not in the office, David can be found reading up on behavioral economics or American history, attending his daughters’ equestrian competitions, or on the tennis court.
